Cambridge United 2nd Year Apprentices Complete Refereeing Course

Second-year apprentices at Cambridge United successfully completed their Introduction to Refereeing course recently, led and delivered by Mo Matadar, former Premier League referee renowned for his expertise and engaging teaching style.

Designed specifically for apprentices, the course offers valuable insights into the rules and laws of the game. The completion day began with a comprehensive theory session, in which the apprentices reviewed key regulations and engaged in lively discussions to deepen their understanding. In the afternoon, the apprentices put their new-found knowledge into practice by refereeing matches involving Cambridge United Elite Centre players at the training ground. This practical experience provided them with an invaluable perspective, sharpening their focus and decision-making skills through a dedicated referee lens.

Harsh Joshi, Head of Education at the club, said: “This course is a vital component of our commitment to developing well-rounded individuals, equipping them with both playing and officiating skills that will benefit their growth on and off the pitch. The course is an excellent opportunity for our scholars to gain a deeper understanding of the game from a different perspective. Mo delivers an excellent course to our scholars each year which also works hand in hand with their BTEC unit. It not only enhances their knowledge but also promotes respect for the rules and the officials.”
